Moddershall Oaks feels a little different to a lot of wedding venues in Staffordshire. Of course the setting is beautiful, with the lake, the trees and the landscaped grounds, but what really sets it apart is the atmosphere. Because it is also known for its spa and retreat feel, the whole place has a relaxed, calm energy to it. It feels tucked away in the best possible way.
With the lakeside gazebo for outdoor vows, a stylish indoor space if the weather is less kind, and lovely surroundings for drinks, portraits and those quieter in between moments, it feels elegant, but not in a stiff or overly formal way.

Moddershall Oaks is one of those venues where the day tends to flow really nicely. You can move from getting ready, to the ceremony, to drinks outside, to portraits around the grounds, and it all feels natural and easy. That always helps a gallery feel more relaxed and more true to the day.
The lakeside ceremony area is obviously a big part of the appeal. It is pretty, but rustic, and the oak gazebo gives the space a lovely focal point and a lovely spot for photographs. Afterwards, a stroll around the lake will have us creating beautiful couple photographs without the need for being away from your guests for a lengthy period. There are beautiful little pockets all around this venue - my favourites are the jetty and strolling through the woodland walks.
Indoors, Moddershall has a contemporary earthy feel, bringing the feel of nature indoors with beautiful lighting and plenty of space for your guests to relax.
One of the nicest details here is that the morning does not feel like an afterthought. The dedicated preparation space gives you somewhere calm to get ready, settle in and actually enjoy the build up to the day. That makes such a difference photographically, because everyone feels less rushed and there is more space for those natural moments to unfold.
I always think the tone of the morning shapes the rest of the gallery, and Moddershall lends itself really well to that part of the story. There is a lovely sense of anticipation here, but it still feels peaceful.
The lakeside ceremony area is the obvious starting point. It is such a lovely setting for the vows themselves, and it works just as beautifully afterwards for portraits and family photographs.
The paths around the grounds and the softer woodland edges are perfect for a few quieter portraits. They give you a more tucked away feel without needing to venture far, which is ideal if you want beautiful images without turning portraits into a big production.
The all weather lawns and gardens are lovely during the drinks reception too, especially for natural photographs of guests. There is enough space for people to spread out and enjoy themselves, which always helps those moments feel genuine.
At Moddershall Oaks, as always, my approach is calm and considered, story telling in style and relaxed in the delivery. I am constantly scanning the room, watching for moments, capturing emotions and building up a complete picture of the day with thoughtful care and a creative eye. I will give gentle guidance when it's helpful and step back when I feel necessary to allow the day to flow naturally and capture the day authentically. The aim is never to make the day feel staged or overly managed. I want the photographs to feel elegant and flattering, while still feeling real.
If you are planning your wedding at Moddershall Oaks and want photographs that feel natural, thoughtful and true to the atmosphere of the day, I would love to hear from you.
It is a venue with plenty of visual beauty, but more than that, it has a feel to it. That is always what I am most interested in capturing.
