Wedding Photography The Moat House

Wedding photography at The Moat House, Acton Trussell

The Moat House in Acton Trussell is one of Staffordshire’s most loved wedding venues, a Grade II listed manor house set in a picturesque village location with tranquil canal views and beautifully kept grounds. With a lakeside pergola, several lovely indoor ceremony spaces and the charm of historic architecture softened by modern elegance, it is a venue that feels both timeless and personal.

As a recommended and trusted wedding photographer at The Moat House, I know the venue well. From the ceremony spaces and gorgeous lawns to the lakeside setting and evening portraits beneath the famous horse chestnut tree, its variety allows me to photograph the day in a way that feels relaxed, thoughtful and beautifully reflective of the atmosphere here.

Why couples love The Moat House

The Moat House sits in the charming village of Acton Trussell, Staffordshire, just a few minutes from the M6 and with excellent transport links nearby. Its Grade II listed manor house blends historic character with warm hospitality, all set beside calm water, mature trees and beautifully maintained grounds.

Couples are drawn to The Moat House for its variety of ceremony settings, from the Colin Lewis Suite with its twinkling fairy lights, to the bright Orangery and the larger Acton Suite overlooking the canal and countryside. Outdoor ceremonies at the lakeside pergola are equally beautiful, while the famous horse chestnut tree lit with hundreds of fairy lights creates one of the most memorable evening backdrops in Staffordshire.

What makes The Moat House so lovely to photograph?

Photographing a wedding at The Moat House feels like moving through a series of beautifully different spaces, each bringing its own atmosphere to the story of the day. The fairy lights in the Colin Lewis Suite create a wonderful sense of warmth and texture, while the grounds, canal and lakeside setting give plenty of opportunities for relaxed portraits and natural guest moments.

It is a venue that works beautifully in all conditions, with enough variety to keep the gallery feeling rich and well balanced whatever the weather. From intimate indoor moments to romantic evening portraits outdoors, The Moat House offers so many opportunities for photography that feels elegant, natural and full of character.

Best photo locations at The Moat House

Some of my favourite places to photograph at The Moat House include:

  • The horse chestnut tree lit with fairy lights
  • The Jetty
  • The Canal bridge
  • The Farmhouse door
  • The manor house exterior, lawns and waterside paths

These different spaces create a beautifully varied gallery, balancing elegant interiors with relaxed outdoor portraits and signature evening images.

My approach to photographing weddings at The Moat House

My approach at The Moat House is calm, observant and story-led. I work with the venue’s historic architecture, natural light, fairy-lit interiors and peaceful outdoor spaces to create photographs that feel genuine, flattering and full of atmosphere.

From quiet preparations through to emotional ceremonies, portraits by the water and joyful celebrations later in the day, I focus on capturing the flow of the wedding as it unfolds naturally. Having photographed many weddings here over the years, I know how to make the most of the venue without ever making the photography feel intrusive or overly staged.
