With its striking red-brick architecture, historic interiors and beautiful gardens, Keele Hall is a wonderful setting for a Staffordshire wedding. There's a real sense of occasion to the building, with its imposing entrance and sweeping grounds, yet plenty of quieter spaces to enjoy away from the celebrations.
I've had the opportunity to explore its grounds, work with the architecture and experience the atmosphere of a wedding celebration there. It's a venue with plenty of character and some lovely opportunities for photography.
My approach combines natural, story-led photography with gentle guidance when it's needed. I want your photographs to reflect both the setting you've chosen and the people and moments that make your wedding your own.

Set within the historic Keele estate, near Newcastle-under-Lyme, Keele Hall combines the grandeur of a traditional country house with gardens, mature trees and extensive parkland.
For photography, it's the contrast between the architecture and the surrounding landscape that makes the venue particularly interesting.
The stone details and grand entrance give photographs an unmistakable sense of place. I particularly enjoy using the building within wider compositions that capture its scale and character.
The formal gardens, lawns and mature trees offer a softer contrast to the Hall. There's plenty of variety, with different colours, textures and opportunities depending on the season.
For couples who studied at Keele, returning to the university to celebrate their wedding can make the venue especially personal. It's a lovely way to bring an important part of their story into the day.
One of the advantages of Keele Hall is having several very different settings within easy reach of one another.
The grand entrance and steps are beautiful for portraits that celebrate the architecture, while the gardens offer a more intimate setting.
There isn't one location that will always be the best choice. The time of year, weather and direction of the light all influence where I would recommend taking photographs, and I prefer working with the conditions on the day rather than following a predetermined route.
For most weddings, I recommend setting aside a short period during the drinks reception for couple portraits. Around fifteen minutes is often enough to visit a few nearby locations and create a lovely variety of photographs.
If the light is particularly beautiful later in the day, we can head outside again for a second brief session. The gardens and architecture can take on a completely different character as the evening approaches.
I also enjoy creating photographs after dark, and Keele Hall's impressive exterior lends itself beautifully to a more dramatic evening portrait.
The timing is always planned around your ceremony, reception and the season, making sure photography fits comfortably within the celebrations.

The lawns and areas surrounding the Hall provide useful options for family photographs, with the exact location chosen according to the light, weather and practical needs of your guests.
I usually recommend a list of around eight to twelve family combinations. This allows us to capture the important groups without making the photographs a lengthy part of the day.
I'll help you plan the list beforehand and organise everyone efficiently on the day, so there's no need for you to worry about gathering relatives or keeping things moving.

After a decade photographing weddings, one of the things I've learned is that the most meaningful photographs often happen when people are simply enjoying themselves.
Of course, a setting like Keele Hall deserves to be photographed beautifully. The building, gardens and details all contribute to the story. But some of the photographs that become most treasured are the ones that capture something less obvious.
A parent's expression just before the ceremony. Friends laughing together during the drinks reception. A moment of reassurance, a reaction during the speeches or the celebrations once the evening begins.
My experience allows me to recognise those moments while also taking care of the more organised parts of the day, from family photographs to making the most of the available light during portraits.
Ultimately, I want your photographs to capture the beauty of Keele Hall without losing sight of what matters most: the people sharing the day with you.
Your wedding photographs, beautifully preserved
Some of my wedding photography collections include a professionally designed album, bringing together the moments, people and details that tell the story of your day.
Keele Hall is in Keele, near Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, within the grounds of Keele University.
We'll adapt our plans to the weather. The Hall offers attractive architectural and interior possibilities, and I'll keep an eye on conditions throughout the day so we can take advantage of any opportunities to photograph outside.
That's something many couples tell me before their wedding. I'll offer gentle direction when it's helpful, but there's no expectation for you to know what to do in front of the camera. I'll work with your personalities and help you feel comfortable throughout.
There are several beautiful possibilities around the estate, subject to any access restrictions. I'll help you choose locations that work well with your wedding timings, the weather and the available light.
If you're planning your wedding at Keele Hall and are looking for natural, elegant photographs that capture both the character of the venue and the story of your day, I'd love to hear what you have planned.
Tell me a little about your wedding date, your plans and what's most important to you. I'll be happy to confirm my availability and explain the photography collections available.
