There is also a lovely balance between the house and the grounds. Inside, you have warm wood panelling, fireplaces, large windows and elegant reception rooms. Outside, there are formal lawns, the walled garden, fountain, bandstand and some of the more playful Pendrell details such as the swing and those distinctive blue gates.

The Morning Room is the more intimate indoor ceremony option, with beautiful period detailing, warm wood and windows overlooking the formal lawns. It works particularly well for couples who want the atmosphere of the house around them during the ceremony.
The Ballroom feels brighter and more spacious, with large windows and plenty of natural light. It gives a larger ceremony a real sense of occasion and later becomes a completely different space once the wedding breakfast and evening celebrations begin.
For an outdoor ceremony, the bandstand sits within the gardens and gives the photographs a much more open feel, surrounded by greenery, lawns and sky. As with any outdoor wedding, I always keep the photography plan flexible in case the British weather decides otherwise.
The period immediately after the ceremony is one of my favourite parts of a wedding at Pendrell. Guests have plenty of space to move between the house, terrace and gardens, so the drinks reception quickly becomes full of conversations, congratulations and people catching up.
This is where I spend a lot of time simply watching rather than directing. While you are talking to guests, I am looking for reactions, laughter, children exploring, grandparents chatting and all the smaller interactions that would disappear if everyone was constantly being organised for photographs.
We can still complete confetti and essential family groups during this part of the day, but I keep those organised and efficient so they do not take over the whole drinks reception.
Family photographs without losing your whole drinks reception
A short, considered list usually works best. I will organise the groups clearly and keep things moving, then get everyone back to enjoying the wedding.
Pendrell has no shortage of photograph locations, but that does not mean we need to march around the entire estate ticking them off a list.
I normally recommend a short portrait session during the drinks reception, choosing the areas that work best for the season, weather and light. The walled gardens, lawns, fountain and architecture give us plenty of variety without needing to take you away from your guests for long.
If the light becomes particularly beautiful later in the day, we can step outside again for another few minutes. Evening portraits often have a completely different atmosphere, especially once the gardens become quieter and the light around the house starts to change.
Beautiful portraits without turning your wedding into a photoshoot
I prefer short, carefully timed portrait sessions rather than taking you away for one long block. You get variety in the gallery while still having plenty of time with the people you invited to celebrate with you.

I do not use every location at every wedding. The best photographs usually come from choosing a small number of places that suit the light and the two of you, rather than making the afternoon feel like a tour of every possible backdrop.
One of the biggest advantages of Pendrell is how easily the different parts of the wedding connect.
There are no lengthy transfers between ceremony and reception, and we do not need to disappear to another location for portraits. That gives us more flexibility if the schedule moves slightly, the weather changes or we suddenly get beautiful light outside.
It also means I can work around what is actually happening rather than forcing the wedding to fit a rigid photography timetable. If everyone is having a brilliant time during the drinks reception, we can give them another few minutes. If a dramatic sky appears later, we can step outside quickly and use it.
Beautiful surroundings help to create beautiful photographs, but they are only one part of the story.
I have more than a decade of wedding experience, and my job is not simply to photograph the obvious moments. I am watching what is happening around them too: the look between you before the ceremony begins, a parent seeing you dressed for the first time, reactions during the speeches and the people on the edge of the dance floor who think nobody is watching.
You also do not need to arrive feeling confident in front of the camera. Most couples are not used to being professionally photographed. I give enough guidance to remove the awkwardness, then give you space to move, talk and interact normally.
When something needs organising, such as confetti, family groups or keeping portraits on schedule, I will organise it. The rest of the time I can quietly observe and document the wedding as it unfolds.

For most weddings I recommend around fifteen to twenty minutes during the drinks reception, with the option of another very short session later if the light or evening sky is particularly beautiful.
Pendrell is also a lovely venue for creating something a little different once darkness falls.
The house, driveway and exterior lighting give us opportunities for evening portraits that feel completely different from anything photographed earlier in the day. These do not need to become another lengthy portrait session. A few carefully planned minutes outside can add a dramatic final chapter to the gallery before you head straight back to the party.
